What would you change about Gran Turismo 5?

Practice and Qualifying sessions

Now its a game about Cars. I would love GT5 to be a Racing Simulator not only a driving game.

Oh.. And second fastest lap, will be in P2 etc etc.. Thats my consistent experience atleast..

Uhmm.. Guys.. This is actually already in the game? Just sorta hidden, and requires u to control it? ..

Practise session. Change the regulations, to the PP/cars/whatever u want. And write in chat "u got 30 mins to practise". When those 30 mins have passed. U then change something, so the track is "reset". Like regulations, track or wahtever. u can always just change twice.. Then u write in chat. "15mins of qualifiying"... After 15mins, u start the race.. Whoever got the fastest lap on ANY track. Will always get P1.. Thats why the option "slowest first, fastest first & random" is in the race settings?

Try it ur self.. Make a lounge with a couple of mates, make whoever gets the fastest lap before u start the race state who they are. And watch how they have P1. (If u have "fastest first" selected ofc?)

I know it would be nice with a more official way of doing it, where the game automaticly does it.. But.. it really only requires minimum work from you.. I've been holding races this way, since release. :) Amazes me to see this topic now, and so many people moaning about u cant do qualifiying lol.. Any second before a race is started on a track, is basicly qualifiying....

that this game does not allow qualifying is bizarre.
it's a huge aspect of racing that was inexplicably left out, just like proper brakes.

Qualifying would be great for this game. 5 laps to put in a time. The quickest one you post is the lap time that could get you on pole.

Definately need Qualifying as an option. Im so bored of having to be disproportianly fatser to be able to win a race when you have to start from the back.

The best thing that they qould be able to increase the difficulty level so that races are much closer and realistic. In most racing grids are covered by less than 2 sec. per lap, GT5 its more like 10!

It would also add a nice time trial aspect, and could even reward points for qualifying.

also think you should be able to tell bob in bspec to 'brake later/earlier accelerate ******/softer/later/earlier corner wider tighter etc. as if you were actually training a real driver. to be able to teach trail braking would be nice.

If these were added, I'd like to see them optional. I wouldn't really care or want to do the qualifications; some would agree with me, but I understand that some people WOULD want to do them.

POLE POSITION QUALIFYING WILL BE GREAT!!! IT CAN BE LIKE A 3 LAP OR 5 LAP POLE POSITION FOR A SMALL ENDURANCE RACE.

For practice, I think it'd be better to stick with using the practice mode on the GT World page.

Qualifying for an A-Spec / B-Spec event race could be useful as it can be annoying to start in the middle of a field and not able to pass (mostly an issue with B-Spec). For qualifying, an "out lap" and a proper qualifying lap would be enough. I'd also want to be allowed to "skip qualifying" and default to a position at the back of the grid. For most A-Spec / B-Spec races, qualifying really isn't needed, but for a select few races - it could be useful.

Forza Motorsport 3's career lacked variety on account of being forced to run multiple heats before running a multi-lap race on the same track. I wouldn't want GT to fall foul of the same issues, so no practice, but a short and skippable qualifying session would be worthwhile.

It's also not really worth adding qualifying until the Expert / Extreme levels of A-Spec / B-Spec. Given that it's a bit late now to change the campaign, maybe GT6 would be a good place to start this, unless we get an A-Spec II / B-Spec II for DLC (lots of GT4 tracks) and have the XP cap extended to Level 50.

The more it becomes about driving skill & car setup & less about "more horsepower lol! I win!" The better.

Agree with VBR about the penalties & other real world racing rules as well, i'd really like to see this as the direction taken for future installments.

There would always be the arcade mode for the people who want to play the old penalty free way of course.

Well GT5 already has qualify and practice but thats online. it would be nice to have offline also.

is this a practice and qualy session for the a and b spec events? if it is then i agree with you annoying having to watch my b spec drivers and me overtake an entire field. but definitely a new rule system for online racing people getting a 10sec penalty for blitzing a corner at 200mph aint enough.

I would love it if GT became a "Real Racing Simulator" too! However, we would need more that just practice & qualification, we'd need: a proper flag system, championship points for championships, stewards AI giving out real world penalties like drive throughs ect, feedback from a race engineer or at least the ability to toggle the HUD on/off during races plus many more little touches to introduce as many real world motor racing dynamics as possible. The driving is fairly realistic in GT as always, but the racing is anything but, at the moment it's just weird bizzarre fantasy racing, I'd love it have the OPTIONS to make it more realistic.

Just can't emphasise enough how important this is. To win a race at the moment, you must have a way over powered car, or every other racer has to be ****. It's just not real racing. There is no incentive to really learn the detail of a track and enjoy racing it.

It was all over the place in GT3, and less in GT4 (Championship races only). But now it's only available in the online mode in GT5. Qualification is a huge part of any motorsports, not just starting form the top of the bottom half of the field. Special events (and Seasonal) is the only place where qualifying isn't necessary.

Totally... would love to see this again!
